Walk with Me -An Altered Book Class with Nat Kalbach

Description In this class, Nathalie will show you how you can turn an old, sad book into something beautiful again! You will work with acrylic paints, acrylic inks, stamps, and stencils, and Nat will walk you through some fun sketching tricks. You don't have to be a master sketcher in order to create some beautiful images in your book. In the end, you will have a colourful creative keepsake filled with techniques that you can use for all kinds of Mixed Media and Art Journal projects.

STudents Should Bring:
old book - Best would be a hard cover book: please make sure that the spine is intact and that the pages are not falling apart or are to brittle. Also please no shiny picture books.
A small jar of white Gesso (fluid or medium bodied) – we only need a small amount
Matte Gel Medium (fluid or medium bodied)
Acrylic Paint (8-10 of your favorite colors, plus black & white)
Box Cutter with a fresh blade
Cutting Mat
Paint Brushes (bristle – wide flat, medium flat, small round and fan brush recommended)
1 very fine brush or if you have a fine tip Bamboo Sketching Pen
Water jar
Water mister
Cosmetic Sponges
Baby wipes
Kitchen Paper Roll or Rag
Palette Paper or Palette
old Hotel Key/Gift Card
Rubber Brayer
Scissors
Glue stick
Deli Paper 3-5 sheets
Black Journaling Pen
White Journaling Pen
Pencil
Fashion Magazine and/or Fashion Catalogue (don’t buy a new one! – try to find something laying around – ask your neighbors if they have an old one)
Ruler - if you have one, bring a metal ruler
optional: bring an art journal to use up excess paint etc :)
Optional: T-shirt or Apron to protect clothes
