The Joy of Acrylic Painting: Paint a Layered Abstraction(6)
176 Race Street
In a fun, instantly gratifying style, Gonzales combines the forgiveness of acrylics with the approachability of expressive painting. With special emphasis on the elements of color, pattern and texture, these lessons give you a jump-start on painting with feeling. If now is your time to pursue creative fulfillment, then this is the book to ease your way.
This week's session of bookclub comes from page 112, project 17. When wandering through museums or galleries, you will frequently hear comments like "my kid could do that" about abstract paintings. The truth is that abstraction is actually the most difficult to do well. True abstract painting has no reference to real objects; it is a thing unto itself composed strictly with only the Elements of Art and the Principles of Design as a guide. This session will dive into using mark-making tools which may be new to you.
We will provide watercolor paper for this project. Feel free to bring a canvas or purchase one here if you'd rather do the project on something more rigid.
