I am fortunate to have a very creative family. When I was 10 my mother, who is a wonderful seamstress, taught me how to sew. Her mother had taught her to knit and sew. I had one of the first Barbie dolls and made clothes for her. Every year at Christmas my mom would dress used dolls for the Salvation Army and I would help her. Over the years, I started making my own clothes. I taught myself embroidery, crewel and cross stitch.
In 1987, on a girls day out, we went to the bead store in Santa Cruz because my friend wanted to buy beads to make earrings. I had never been but 2 hours later, I left with a bag of beads, the basic knowledge of how to make a pair of earrings and my mind spinning with possibilities. I am self taught on the basics, but I have taken classes with such wire and metal working artists as Kris Silva, Lisa Niven Kelly and Iris Sandkuhler.
