“Painted Layers Postcards” is one of the Shareable Art Projects in my book: Share Your Joy: Mixed Media Shareable Art. To me, mixed media art is all about layers! Layers of color and layers of media! In fact, one of my mixed media mantras is “Layer ’til you like it!” With layered, mixed media art postcards, we get to play with some art supplies and techniques with no pressure and all joy. Allow yourself to connect to the creativity within you. You’ll experience joy and then, when you send away your postcards to others, they can share your joy.
For me, creativity is a mindfulness practice that contributes to my well-being. Mindfulness is being attentive to what’s happening now. Our assumptions (about ourselves, our ability, what’s good or bad), and our limiting thoughts, are all part of our history—they are grounded in the past. Our worry and fear of not being good enough, or failing is about the unknown, what hasn’t happened yet—the future. What’s left is something in between — the present moment. This is where we are when we engage ourselves in a playful process of creating something. We tap into our intuition and truest selves, our essential nature, when we create.
Creativity is my self care. Sharing what I make, and how I make it is, for me, sharing my joy. I hope that what I share helps others to experience this joy. I believe that sharing our joy can transform the world. Today we are going to create Painted Layers Postcards to share our joy with others!
I’m Sarah Gardner, also known as Juicy*S. Juicy*S is my DJ name. I'm not a DJ. I would love to be a DJ. I am a recovering perfectionist. I have learned that what gives me joy is the process of creating, not the “perfect” end result. I want to help others explore creativity, ignore that perfectionistic inner critic, and play around with art supplies. It gives me joy, and I want to share this way to happiness.
